After accumulating over 30 years’ business and management experience working for Progress Software Houses and one of the large Management Consultancy businesses, I seek to use my Progress experience in Progress based recruitment.
My Progress involvement started when I was employed at Unisys as a 4GL Consultant, Progress was one of the development tools that I was really impressed with. Proteus Software was formed from a management buyout, and I was appointed Software Director. The obvious choice for development applications was Progress! I was one of the original founders of the UK Progress User Group in 1988 and have presented at many of the PUG events throughout the world.
I spent three years away from Progress technologies whilst employed at Price Waterhouse, only to find that Oracle, Sybase and Ingres technologies were no match for Progress technologies. I joined Dataspeed Computer Services as Software Director, responsible for the bespoke software division.
In 1995, I started a Progress Software House, Progressive Computer Systems Ltd (PCSL) and by 2004, the company expanded and received a prestigious 'Deloitte’s Fast 50' award for one of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in the North. The company was nominated for Direct Sales Partner of the Year by Progress Software.
PCSL won the contracts to supply software for retail and cash handling to household names including Securicor G4S, Comet group plc, Glasgow City Council, South Staffordshire Water plc and Reg Vardy plc. The company was acquired by Sanderson Group plc in 2005 and I remained as Managing Director until early 2007. After making the decision to move on from Sanderson PCSL in 2007.
Whilst under restrictions from selling the company, I spotted a gap in the market for maximising internet business for the SME sector, and formed another company in April 2007 to provide high-end, web-based services ensuring that SMEs without the financial weight of larger companies can have the same quality of web presence but without the costs associated with using conventional software houses.
In 2007, Pace Commerce Ltd was formed to produce eCommerce webshops and Davison Consultancy was set up to meet the demand for SME businesses requiring consultancy on eCommerce with a business bias. In 2009, Progress Jobs was set up to address the demand for filling Progress job vacancies and helping businesses that had a requirement for Progress based skills.Using my personal knowledge of Progress Software Houses and Progress developers allowed me to bridge the gap.
I am a member of the Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, and an approved member on Yorkshire Forward's consultant's register, the YHSuppliers database.
